The Singapore Martial Arts Instructors Association (SMAIA) is a national body established in 1978. Martial Arts in Singapore reflect multi-racial origins therefore its objective is to promote goodwill and friendship among all martial artists from the various ethnic groups in Singapore. It promotes various forms of Martial Arts such as Wushu (Chinese Arts), Karate, Silat, Tai Kwon Do, Indian Martial Art/Kalari-Payat, Aikido, Judo, Boxing and other forms of Martial Arts. This cordial consolidation of teachers and advance exponents interested in studying modern or traditional martial arts and its Way will provide the cohesive platform for exchange of their knowledge and techniques.
SMAIA plans to provide disseminated information on the developments of Asian martial arts for the education of all interested people and organizations. Such accurate knowledge of our Asian martial cultures should be fostered by inviting well known teachers to give scholarly presentations and demonstrations on the essential aspects of various martial arts. This will stimulate a correct approach to research and training of martial arts.
SMAIA is dedicated to improving communication, fellowship, and friendship among people, from any country or martial arts organization, who have martial study and training as their common interest. It is a permanent and respected member of the international martial arts community. The founding members feel that it is a concrete statement of the respect and admiration they hold for that which is the best in the martial culture of Asia.
We are now in 28 years of existence, almost tree decades of hard work and contribution by SMAIA members have put to the harmonious and cohesive society in Singapore. We are very fortunate to have the voluntary service of the Grandmasters, Sifus, Gurus, Senseis and Shihans. It is through their co-operation and their assistance we receive from the People's Association that makes us so successful in the promotion of Martial Arts.
In recent years, we have successfully organized the All Styles Martial Arts Championship form year 2001 to year 2005. These events have great impact on the future developments and co-operation amongst our various forms of Martial Art in Singapore. However, this year the event will be going international for the 1st time. It will still be held in Singapore but the participants will be coming from all over the world. This will be a prestigious and meaningful event that will mark another milestone to the Martial Arts in Singapore. In this way, Martial Arts in Singapore is practised widely as a Healthy lifestyle while not losing its intrinsic values as an Art of self-defence.
If you are a Singapore licensed instructor of long experience in Martial Arts, we invite you to join us in the development of martial arts in Singapore.
